Through spiritual practice, you can explore wonderful mysteries within yourself and beyond the ordinary world. If you ignore your Spiritual self, then it will often make itself known through many types of problems and trials, mentally, emotionally and of course, physically. We also become further disconnected from Divine Spirit and the further we are disconnected from this spirit; the more problems and confusion emerge quite frequently in our lives. 
What is Spiritual Counseling?
It is a counseling method often used for the same purpose as secular counseling, however, while using methods like a clinical counselor, the spiritual counselor will approach issues from a spiritual perspective vs. clinical and assists the client in developing appropriate changes in the mind, body and spirit.
By focusing on the eternal presence of the Divine Mind within, a skilled and trained spiritual counselor can guide clients to their own inner power, to trusting their own inner voice. This is a therapeutic process by which one returns to that understanding of one's connection with Divine Source.
While the processes used are similar to general counseling practices, it should be understood that in no way does spiritual counsel substitute or replace clinical counseling by a licensed professional.
Choosing a Spiritual Consultation
The goal of Spiritual Counseling is to provide insight into problems through spiritual and mystical means to which the relief of symptoms, positive changes in behavior and attitude that lead to improved social and vocational functioning, and personal growth can be achieved. Although it is not a practice regulated by state law, (separation of the church and state) one could only benefit by being discerning and exercising a bit of common sense when choosing a spiritual counsel to help serve their spiritual needs. From an ethical perspective, it is suggested that Spiritual Counseling should be received from a qualified and experienced individual. Unfortunately, there are many dishonest people who offer spiritual counseling and because of this, it is difficult to know who is actually experienced and trained verses those who are simply trying to make a fast dollar off of your spiritual crisis. 
When considering whether or not to receive a spiritual counseling session, it might be very helpful to keep in mind that not all who are "ordained ministers" have the knowledge and experience to act in a spiritual-pastoral counseling capacity. But this doesn't stop many from offering their services. The frightening truth is that it only takes an application and 10 dollars to become legal clergy, registered with the state and this only permits one the legal authority to solemnize marriages but it is not proof of their ability to provide good spiritual counsel. While it's not necessary that one be licensed to be a pastoral counselor (again, nor should it ever be---separation of church and state) one should at least have a training and experience within the non-secular level from reputable organizations (which can include traning circles, covens and other priestess training that empasizes pastoral-soul-spiritual care), seminaries or universities. It is important to remember that when we seek spiritual counseling we are usually experiencing what we feel is our damaged souls crying out our desires to be back in harmony with our Divine Self. We are hurting, and in this fragile state we can be taken advantage of by non-ethical persons.
Spiritual Counseling can be a wonderful gateway to healing and recovery especially if guided by a trained and experienced spiritual counselor. Ultimately you should be comfortable both with the spiritual counselor and the tradition in which she works. Make sure the counselor you consider is someone whom you can trust to do her best for you.
